Heritage Fencing for Leeds Station

WTL were appointed by Buckingham Group Ltd to carry out perimeter works at Leeds Station’s Princess Car Park. The project involved replicating and replacing fencing that had been in place for over half a century, while also delivering new access, handrail, and safety features for the remodelled station.

Bespoke Steel Fencing

The main challenge was to replicate the original steel fencing to maintain the character of the station. Working with a local fabricator, we measured, designed, and produced 16 new panels and matching posts. Each panel was built from mild steel, welded to exact dimensions, powder-coated in gloss black, and weighed around 160kg. Posts added a further 20kg each. Within a week, a template was approved, and fabrication began.

Installation took around a week and a half. Where possible, we re-used existing panels to preserve the authentic look, blending old and new seamlessly.

Additional Works

Installed Paladin fencing around the line side car park perimeter, finished in black with electronic pedestrian gates and a 4m vehicular gate. Fixed over 175m of GRP handrail, resin bolted to the kerbs with every joint riveted for strength and safety. Wrapped up the car park works with galvanised Armco barriers to protect both vehicles and pedestrians.

Outcome

The project was completed to a high standard, retaining the station’s heritage feel while delivering durable, modern safety measures. Every element was built to handle daily footfall and weather exposure, giving the station a clean, secure layout that will hold up well over time.
