WTL were approached by Construction Marine Ltd to carry badger mitigation works on the Western region, the works were to include cement grouting to burrows and then using hex wire netting rolled from the crest to the track side pined using 500mm U high tensile shaped pins, work was started in May and completed in July 2020.

Months before the works could start the badgers had to be tempted to leave the site using a one way badger gated system.

Badger sets were located and a cement grout pumped in to stabilise the embankment to a total 71m3, WTL worked in coordination with a local company to provide the grout pan and mixer.

Badger mitigation netting was laid to a total area of 8500m2 once all grouting was complete and using Spanex guns to lock netting together. The works WTL have carried out will mean this section of the western railway system can remain unaffected by land slip and potential badger infestation in the future.

The project was to be 12 weeks but WTL completed this within 9 weeks saving the client further on site costs.
