Strong Foundations at Hebden Bridge

WTL were appointed by Buckingham Group Ltd to deliver a reinforced concrete slab at Hebden Bridge Station’s old Coal Yard. The slab would provide the foundation for new steel buildings to support future operations.

Project Scope

The works had to be completed within a two-week window. To meet this tight deadline, WTL coordinated with the local supply chain to remove approximately 120mÂł of contaminated spoil, before backfilling with around 68mÂł of C20 mass concrete.

Once the ground was stabilised, a reinforced slab of around 60mÂł was constructed, complete with sealed drainage incorporating two gullies and chambers.

Construction Process

During excavation, an existing drain and chamber were uncovered. These voids were filled using the C20 mix as part of the mass fill.

A dense network of reinforcing steel was then laid out to strengthen the C30/C37 concrete slab. The slab was poured in a continuous operation and finished to specification using a power float, creating a durable and level surface.

Outcome

The finished slab was delivered on schedule, providing a strong and stable base for the new Coal Yard buildings. Despite the challenges of contaminated spoil removal and unexpected ground conditions, the project was completed within the original two-week timeframe.
