Salterhebble Halifax
At Salterhebble Halifax the contract works consisted of vegetation clearance and installation of rock netting.
The works were to be completed on mid-week and Saturday nights only, there would be no daytime working on this project. Initially setting up the first few weeks to concentrate on vegetation removal to around 5000m2 with 4500m2 light scaling to complete after. All stumps were reduced to 75mm and all waste removed off site.
Work in progress, you can see the drops of mesh are ready for the connection to the face and the seams ready for Spanex clipping.
All top and bottom anchor bars after grouting were reduced so the galvanized eye nuts sat flush with the rock face once spun into place and protected with galvanised spray to conceal any bare metal as can be seen below: -
Rock netting and drilling works were carried out in essential areas on both the North and South sides of the portal. During these works we had a team of Irata trained rope technicians working with air tools to drill the rock face and insert the bars ready to receive the rock netting. Using Marini drill rigs the holes some of which were 4m deep were drilled, these were then filled with resin capsules and anchor bars were then spun in locking tight once the resin capsule had split.
In total WTL had around 170 rock anchors to drill in readiness for securing the netting. With short possessions mid-week of around 2 hours and slightly longer on the Saturday shifts time which was a very tight timescale and our team performed to the highest standard to get the project completed. Over 1750m2 of rock netting was installed on the project, all drops were stitched and clipped using air powered clipping guns and stainless steel clips. The top and bottom folds were secured using 16mm galvanised wire rope pulled tight and secured with bull dog grips.
